Florida based alternative metal band Meka Nism has released the official music video for their single “The War Inside,” off of their upcoming, as yet unnamed EP. Originally premiered on New Noise Magazine, “The War Inside” was directed by Jim Dougherty with creative direction from front-woman Meka.
“The music video for ” The War Inside” is the visual representation of the internal struggles that some of us battle throughout our entire lives. From anxiety to depression, addiction and insecurity, we all deal with some type of inner demons that affect us on different levels. In the video, the story is one of self healing through the spiritual journey of the Shaman. Meka portrays both her own lost soul fragments and her own hero. She faces her fears by confronting them head on in each of her energy centers, which are portrayed by six butoh dancers. We each have the power and courage to face our struggles and to save ourselves from all that we are desperately fighting. The intention behind “The War Inside” is to help inspire and create the energy to empower others to take their own healing journey and know that everything we need to win our war is already inside of us,” says Meka.
The Cambridge English Dictionary defines mechanism as ‘a mechanical contrivance; structure of a machine.’ Well, that dictionary will soon need a new entry which reads ‘Meka Nism: totally uncontrived, a new structure of metal music.’ Originally formed in 2006 under the steampunk-sounding name of Meka Nism and the Rusty Years; the band, now known as the more streamlined Meka Nism, has mutated into the awesome future-forming metallic behemoth it is now. Featuring a band firing on all cylinders and the most charismatic front-woman, Meka Nism have supported legends like Mastodon, Gojira, The Offspring, Limp Bizkit, Otep and In Flames. The very diversity of their support slots speaks volumes for Meka Nism, they are a true 21st century band, building new edifices on what has come before.
Inspired by Metallica, Joan Jett, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Ghost, guitarist Bobby Keller describes Meka Nism’s sound as “powerful, metallic, aggressive ,melodic, and in your face.”
Bobby explains the meaning of the band’s name. “Meka Nism means a well-oiled metal machine with great power! With all of the elements, the band members combine, we make one machine.”
Bobby can’t wait for Meka Nism’s fans to hear their new EP. “The musical element is superior to any thing we’ve done before. We are ready to take the world by storm. We know we have something special and are at the forefront of something new in metal. Our lyrics come from a lot of spiritual influences, Meka studies shamanism and takes a very specific healing approach to all her lyrics. Meka Nism, live, emit “pure power and energy. We are a LIVE band, hands down. Our shows are packed and we thrive off the energy of our audiences. We take it and punch it right back to them. There is no let up. You can expect your neck to hurt a lot after our shows.”
