For this first time in my lifetime the tradition that was the MDA Telethon isn’t happening. But not cause a cure was found because of changing times. But the one thing that hasn’t changed is that MDA needs YOU.
For most of my life this weekend wasn’t about barbecuing or celebrating the end of summer. For my family and countless others it was a weekend spent working to bring awareness to Muscular Dystrophy, answering phones to accept donations, and volunteers around the country rallying together for a cause that gets NO government funding. Yes you read correct, the Muscular Dystrophy Association gets NO government funding and that’s why every year on the MDA Telethon it was emphasized by Jerry Lewis, Tony Orlando, Sammy Davis Jr., and countless others that YOU counted – even if you donated a single dollar.
So now here we are, it’s 2015 and there’s no Telethon but also no cure and no treatment for Muscular Dystrophy and the neuromuscular diseases that fall into similar categories. What can be done?
The answer is simple. Go to MDA.org and make a donation, even if it’s only a dollar. YOUR dollar could fund the minute of research that finds the cure. And then go on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and so on and tell everyone you know to go and donate. Let’s make MDA the the good kind of viral sensation this weekend in honor of the MDA Telethon.
