Periphery, who release their fifth album, Periphery III: Select Difficulty, later this month (July 22, Sumerian Records), debut the first video from the 11-song album, with an animated clip for “Marigold”.
“’Marigold’ was written pretty early in the album writing sessions,” guitar player Mark Holcomb explains. “It had been a song that anchored the songwriting direction for P3. The technicality, sense of melody, orchestration and big choruses lend itself to what I feel most of this record is about.”
Wes Richardson directed the video. He had previously worked with the band on the video for “Alpha,” from the band’s 2015 Juggernaut releases.
“Working with Wes has become second nature for the band,” continues Holcomb. “This is his fourth video for us. Not only is he uniquely gifted but he also understands the visual aesthetic of Periphery, as well as having a sense of humor that runs parallel to ours.”
Physical pre-order bundles for the new album are available now via Sumerianmerch.com and digitally via iTunes (http://smarturl.it/PeripheryIII-iTunes), Amazon (http://smarturl.it/PeripheryIII-Amazon) and Google Play (http://smarturl.it/PeripheryIII-GoogleP). Periphery’s most recent releases, the Juggernaut albums, debuted at #15 and #16 on Billboard’s Top Album chart. The conceptual releases were hailed by outlets for their modern take on prog; Rolling Stone dubbed the albums “a prog-metal opera,” Alternative Press said the release “ushers in new wave of heavy” and Outburn said the albums “most likely changed the face of modern progressive metal as we know it.”
The band will host a four-day, immersive summer camp dubbed the “Periphery Summer Jam” on July 25 to 29 at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, New York. Registration and further information can be found here: www.peripherysummerjam.com.
